The Muddy Goose is preparing to open a community pottery studio inside the former Theo Chocolate building at 3400 Phinney Ave. N. in Fremont. Founder Kristina Hodorowski told What Now Seattle that she expects to open in late fall 2026.

The business has leased approximately 5,100 square feet in the building, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Hodorowski came up with the idea after seeing how difficult it had become to secure space at Seattle pottery studios. As waitlists grew, she decided to open another option for people interested in the craft.

The Muddy Goose will offer monthly memberships that include access to pottery wheels, kiln firing, and glazing. Members can use the studio to work independently and produce their own pieces on-site.

“It’s basically like a gym membership but for pottery,” Hodorowski said.

Classes will also be part of the program. Plans include date-night sessions, six-week courses, and eight-week series for beginners. Hodorowski also wants to equip the studio with different types of kilns, sandblasters, and specialized tools that allow members to explore new techniques.

“We’re really looking forward to building a community and welcoming everybody, from beginners to people who have been doing it for decades,” she said.

Hodorowski has practiced pottery for about 10 years. Before starting The Muddy Goose, she spent about four years as a financial controller, overseeing the back-end operations of another company. Earlier this year, she left that role to focus on opening her own studio.

The building itself helped turn the idea into a concrete plan. Hodorowski lives nearby and was browsing available properties before she had fully committed to opening a studio. When she saw space available inside the former Theo Chocolate property, she decided to move forward.

“I love Fremont, and I love the building,” Hodorowski said. “I’ve always thought it was just a really cool location.”

The red-brick landmark was built in 1905 as the Fremont Trolley Barn and later served as a production site for Redhook Brewery and as Theo Chocolate’s factory and flagship location. The property is now being redeveloped for several new tenants.

People interested in joining can sign up for the waitlist on the studio’s website and follow The Muddy Goose on Instagram for updates.
