A new restaurant will soon be serving up Southern comfort food in St. Pete. Called Mrs. Thelma’s Southern Cuisine, it’s opening at 119 49th St S.
What Now spoke on Wednesday with Melvin Holt, who is opening Mrs. Thelma’s together with Nicole Rollins-Holt.
“This was really my mother’s idea,” Holt told What Now. “She passed away in 2006, and this is her legacy that I’m fulfilling. It’s going to be down-home cooking as it should be.”
The menu will feature dishes like baked turkey wings, “The World’s Best Mac & Cheese,” meatloaf, pork chops, fried chicken, collard greens, and, for dessert, banana pudding and red velvet cake.
Mrs. Thelma’s will be offering both takeout and dine-in, with four tables and seating for about 12 guests in a small dining area. It’ll be a cozy spot for food that is “Just Like Mom’s.”
“WARNING,” says a recent Facebook post published by Mrs. Thelma’s. “This Mac & Cheese should come with an addiction alert! Golden, cheesy, creamy, and baked to perfection. One bit and you’ll understand why everyone keeps talking about it.”
Try it soon!
