Esquire Restaurant, a family-run Greek eatery known for its long-standing presence in the Greater Toronto Area, is getting ready to open a new location in Toronto at 566 Queen Street West.
The company’s second location is set to expand beyond its original Scarborough home at 2581 Victoria Park Avenue, according to Toronto.com. The restaurant is owned and operated by Leo Mgrdichian and his three siblings, representing the second generation of the family business. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, Mgrdichian tells Whatnow Toronto that the team is aiming to open in June 2026.
Established in 1981, Esquire Restaurant has operated as a family-owned business for more than four decades. The concept has remained consistent, with recipes passed down through generations and a focus on fresh, made-to-order meals. Its Scarborough location has built a steady following, especially for late-night service, staying open until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The new Queen Street West restaurant will mirror the look and feel of the original, maintaining consistent branding and layout. The goal is to recreate the same casual dining environment that has made the Scarborough location a reliable option. The team also plans to offer similar late-night hours to cater to downtown foot traffic.
Menu offerings will remain focused on Greek staples, including chicken and pork souvlaki, gyros, falafel, and Greek fries. Signature items include souvlaki dinners, gyros on pita, and Greek fries topped with feta, tzatziki, and lemon sauce. The restaurant also serves burgers, poutines, and desserts like baklava.
Looking ahead, the downtown Toronto opening is part of a larger growth plan. The company has expressed interest in expanding into areas such as Mississauga and Vaughan following this launch, while maintaining its family-run approach and consistent menu.
