Hatboro Wawa fans will soon have reason to celebrate. The East Coast’s favorite convenience store is bringing gas, groceries, made-to-order meals, and maybe even beer and wine to the intersection of York and Horsham Roads by the end of this year, reports Patch.

Work crews have begun construction on the new Wawa, situated at 412 South York Road. The new store will occupy 5,585 square feet and will feature six gas pumps and 54 parking spots.

The new location is pursuing a liquor license transfer, a growing trend among Wawa stores.

The Hatboro Wawa’s opening will mark the end of a long and contentious development process, dating back to 2020. Borough officials actively opposed and fought against the convenience giant taking over the location. Construction has been on-going since autumn of 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 at the earliest.

The first Wawa opened its doors in Folsom, Pennsylvania, in 1964. The enormously popular convenience store currently has 1,017 stores spread across Delaware, Maryland, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.

In addition to groceries, Wawa offers a wide range of made-to-order meal options, including hoagies, bowls, salads, breakfast sandwiches, and the seasonal phenomenon, the Gobbler. Guests can customize their orders through convenient touch-screens.
