Nobu, the world-renowned Japanese restaurant empire with 50 sites, is opening a new location in Coronado at 1500 Orange Avenue.

The company’s second San Diego site is moving into the former home of Sheerwater within San Diego’s 136-year-old Hotel Del Coronado, first reported by SanDiegoVille. With locations across five continents, Nobu has one site in the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego and plans to open a 3,700-square-foot space in early 2025. The global restaurant will have indoor and outdoor dining areas, a pagoda-shaped bar, and a sushi counter. Nobu is also working on sites in Toronto, Madrid, New Orleans, Bangkok, and more.

“We look forward to bringing guests the Nobu signature dishes they have come to love, along with some exceptional items and experiences that will only be available at Nobu Hotel del Coronado,” Chef and co-founder Nobu Matsuhisa tells San Diego Magazine.

Matsuhisa launched his flagship restaurant in New York City in 1994 with an esteemed group of partners, which includes actor Robert De Niro, producer Meir Teper, and restaurateur Drew Nieporent. Since then, the company has sites worldwide, including a luxury retreat in Malibu. Now Nobu will expand within San Diego for the first time as part of Blackstone’s last phase of the more than $550 million restoration.

“From day one, it has been our goal to ensure the Hotel Del is able to provide guests and community members a one-of-a-kind experience, and we are thrilled to add a world-class dining partner like Nobu,” Blackstone’s managing director Brian Kaufman tells San Diego Magazine.
