Mad For Cheesecake and Jaws TPK are preparing to open new locations later this year at Westfield Plaza Bonita’s food court in National City at 3030 Plaza Bonita Road.

The two eateries, both managed by Kevin Bang, are expected to open in the shopping center in November 2024, according to Eater San Diego. Mad For Cheesecake, located in Carmel Valley and National City, will be moving into the former home of DQ Orange Julius, while Jaws TPK, which has a stall inside the H Mart Balboa food court, will replace the Buffalo Spot. Bang tells Eater he is also looking to open a new Jaws TPK location sometime next spring.

Mad For Cheesecake is an Asian bakery and cafe offering a handful of desserts, specifically Japanese cheesecakes, which are less sweet and have fewer calories than standard Western-style ones. The eatery also offers boba drinks. Jaws TPK, on the other hand, offers Asian snacks, such as gimbap, seaweed-wrapped rice rolls, and tteokbokki. The South Korean-based company has another U.S. outpost in the Source OC Mall and Koreatown in Los Angeles. Bang is no stranger to expanding businesses within San Diego, considering he also operates three local branches of the Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon.

The two incoming eateries prove Westfield Plaza Bonita is nowhere close to slowing down its offerings, recently opening San Diego’s newest location of Round1 Bowling and Arcade. The Japanese-based entertainment complex has been in operation since 1980 and opened its first US location in Southern California in 2010. Today, the brand has over 50 entertainment centers in the US. Before opening in Bonita, Temecula was the closest Round1 location to San Diego. Round1 amusement centers feature bowling, interactive arcade games, Kids Zone play areas, karaoke, billiards, and plenty of food offerings.
