A local hospitality group is getting ready to break ground on a massive waterfront concept that will debut in a few years at the Coronado Ferry Landing.
The Port of San Diego recently approved Social Syndicate to open a one-of-a-kind waterfront development that will feature a large-scale restaurant, bar, and event venue, according to San Diego Magazine. The yet-to-be-named project will be built from the ground up and broken down into a single-story, 7,200-square-foot indoor restaurant with seating for 300 people, 18-foot-tall ceilings, and an outdoor area with an additional 7,500 square feet of space.
This massive project has a long-term timeline that will hopefully begin in about 90 days when the team and architect Matt Kingdon at COAR Design Group plan to break ground for an estimated 18-month project. In other words, if everything goes according to plan, the Social Syndicate hopes to complete the new development, which will adhere to Green Initiative standards, in mid-2026. The brand new concept draws inspiration from the group’s other concept, Monarch Ocean Pub. Customers can expect a variety of Baja-inspired seafood, craft cocktails, and local beer.
Social Syndicate, led by co-owners Brendan Huffman, Mina Desiderio, Mark Huber, and Hoffman Leung, is responsible for several other well-known concepts in San Diego, such as La Dona in Ocean Beach, Rosie O’Grady’s in Normal Heights, OB Surf Lodge, The Rabbit Hole in Normal Heights, The Local Pacific Beach, Wonderland Ocean Pub in Ocean Beach, Bootlegger in downtown, and more. Now that the group has attained approval from the city, they will focus on this massive project for the next couple of years.
