According to Sacramento County planning documents, a new Mexican restaurant, cantina, and event space, Paraiso Cantamar, will take over the vacant former Sears Auto Center at 5895 Florin Road. The building, totaling 22,000 square feet, will have two core components: a 12,000-square-foot Oaxacan Mexican restaurant upstairs, and a 10,000-square-foot event space, cantina, and nightclub downstairs. The event space is designed for wine, beer, and tequila tastings; weddings; private parties, and karaoke, according to pre-application documents.

“The vision is for the space is to provide a fun place for the community to enjoy,” project applicant, Rodolfo Hernandez, indicated in the pre-application document. “South Sacramento does not have many places for people to go out, nor the variety of entertainment options.”

The construction includes interior remodeling and converting the existing building previously used as a motor vehicle repair garage into a nightclub. There will also be minor facade improvements, including a new uncovered patio that’s approximately 720 sqft and the removal of existing roll-up doors, substituting with exterior metal wall panels to match existing adjacent surfaces, according to documents submitted.

Roseville-based SkyBlue Design Studio appears to be the architect for the project. By the time of this coverage, Hernandez had not replied to What Now Sacramento’s request for comments. At this stage, no detailed project timeframe is available and the project is still in the pre-application stage.
