Development of the old Sears property is making progress. In addition to Pollo Campero, a Guatemala-origin fried chicken chain, Raising Cane’s also plans to open a new location once development is complete. The Florin Towne Center location at 5901 Florin Road will be corporate-owned.

Site plans and permits were submitted by engineering firm Kimley-Horn and project manager Nina Correia earlier last year. The project received conditional approval in June, and construction has started. As of now, no projected project timeframe is available other than the new location could possibly open in the first quarter of 2025.

The new company-owned location is a 2,899-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru. Correia, who handles Raising Cane’s projects in the region, said the Southern-style chicken finger chain is rapidly expanding in Northern California and that she didn’t “see them slowing down.”

While Raising Cane’s once offered franchising opportunities, the chain has not been available for franchising over the past few years. All 78 current franchise partners have been with the system since the company’s original restaurant partner program started over ten years ago.

“Currently, we are focused on the rapid development of company-affiliated restaurants in a very specific geography, while continuing to support our existing franchise business partners,” Raising Cane’s website states. “Unfortunately, we are not entertaining franchise or development opportunities anywhere at this time.”
