The always-growing national coffee chain Starbucks has submitted paperwork for a new location in Richwood at 7060 Winchester Rd.
Permits are pending for a new location near the Cross Creek Shopping Mall, according to public records. The site is the current home of American Freight Furniture, Mattress, and Appliance. While the coffee chain has locations throughout the Memphis area, Starbucks has another location on the other side of Route 385 on Winchester Road. The new Starbucks will join several other national fast-food chains in the area, such as Smoothie King, Chick-fil-A, and Baskin Robbins.
The company is also working on another location in Whitehaven near the Southland Mall at 1175 E. Shelby Drive, previously reported by What Now Memphis. While both these locations likely won’t open until late this year, possibly early next year, the national chain is getting ready to introduce two new summer beverages – the Chocolate Java Mint Frappuccino blended drink and White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew.
Starbucks has also created a new whole-bean packaged coffee called the Starbucks Green Apron Blend, which was made with the help of over 24,000 Starbucks baristas. Thousands of idea submissions from store partners shaped the coffee’s flavor and roast profiles, which regions the coffee was sourced from, and the look and feel of the packaging.
“When a lot of people think about heritage, we talk about 1982 when Howard Schultz started, the past, dark roasts, black coffee, all those things,” Leslie Wolford, a lead on the Starbucks coffee development team, said in a press release. “That’s why Green Apron Blend is a milestone because it creates a new heritage. It creates a stepping stone to the next generation of partners (employees) about what heritage looks like.”
