Newk’s Eatery, a fast-casual chain that operates and franchises just under 100 units in 15 states, is opening three more locations in the Memphis area.

The Mississippi-based company recently announced it had signed a three-store development agreement with Mooney Restaurant Ventures, LLC, for Memphis and the surrounding area, according to a press release. Mooney Restaurant Ventures is led by existing franchisee Dr. Spencer Mooney, who owns several locations in Louisiana and Mississippi. He recently purchased three existing stores in Memphis and plans to develop an additional three. This will nearly double the area’s locations, with Mooney in control of the majority.

“I’m incredibly honored to become a bigger part of the Newk’s family,” Mooney said in a press release. “The Memphis metropolitan area is a wonderful market for us. Memphians appreciate fresh, delicious food, and we can’t wait to build relationships in the communities we serve as we bring Newk’s to even more people.”

Founded in 2004, Newk’s Eatery offers salads, sandwiches, soups, and pizzas made in-house without fryers or microwaves. Fresh grab-and-go options are also available. While the food is delicious, the company proudly supports ovarian cancer research after founder Chris Newcomb’s wife, Lori, was diagnosed with the disease in 2013. Mooney is also the president of Quail Ridge Enterprises, which franchises First Watch sites in Louisiana and Mississippi.

“Dr. Mooney has been a great franchisee of Newk’s Eatery for over 15 years, and we are thrilled to have him expand his presence in the Newk’s system,” Newk’s Eatery CEO Frank Paci said in a press release.
