Less than four months after closing its doors at 925 West Ninth Avenue, Renegade Brewing has new owners. Dan Colbourne and Aaron Uhl will take over the brewery and make a few changes, Westword reports.
Colbourne and Uhl are both award-winning home brewers. The pair met just before the closing of Uhl’s former company Uhl’s Brewing last year. They talked frequently, looking at other companies going up for sale.
“We wanted to look at something that really had a taproom that you could build a business around,” Colbourne said. “We met there for a beer, and we looked around the space. It wasn’t a very big space, but had the potential to become bigger. With some thoughts we had, we managed to put together the principal deal points in about a week. And we closed the deal within nine days of the first conversation, which is about as good as it gets.”
Uhl tells What Now Denver they are updating the space a bit, with plans to double the seating capacity from 77 to about 150. They have tapped Jeremy Gobien, owner of Copper Kettle Brewing, for a new ten-barrel brewhouse that will be ready in October.
In the meantime, Renegade will offer a variety of guest beers on its taps, including several collaborations. They will also be asking the community for input on what flavor profiles they’d like to see.
“[We’re] trying to take this pretty cool place, add what we can to it, really focus on the taproom and the beer, and really turn it into something that sits well in the neighborhood,” Uhl said.
