A brand new Caribbean nightclub called The Reggae Lounge is getting ready to debut in Uptown Charlotte, located at 2630 Statesville Ave.

The new lounge plans to open in early December in an up-and-coming area that is a mile from Camp North End, according to Charlotte Observer. Co-owners and husband-and-wife Elvado and Lytondra Laing plan to fill a void in the Caribbean community nightlife. Currently, Panzú Brewery in Mint Hill is the only nearby establishment with a similar atmosphere. Both businesses will represent the island community after Crystal on the Plaza closed during the pandemic.

When the new Caribbean nightclub opens later this year, customers can expect island-themed cocktails featuring drinks with coconut and white rum mixed with tropical juices. For music, there will be a DJ every night playing various selections of reggae, soca, and afrobeats. The Reggae Lounge will also feature a hookah lounge and Caribbean food trucks outside. The nightclub will be open from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday-Sunday, with owners hoping to eventually extend business hours into the work week.

“It will have a real Caribbean theme,” Elvado Laing, a native of the Bahamas, tells the Observer. “When you walk in, you’re going to feel like you’re not even in Charlotte. One thing they are going to get is authenticity. That’s the point of putting the name as The Reggae Lounge because I want it to be really specific on the type of music that’s going to be played there.”
