Health Risks from the Contaminated Pet Food
Pet foods that are contaminated with Salmonella or Listeria can make both pets and people sick. Symptoms in Pets may include diarrhea (sometimes with blood), fever, vomiting, low energy, or stomach pain. Some pets may not appear to be sick but can still spread the germs to people or other animals.
People can also get sick from handling the contaminated food, especially if they don’t wash their hands well afterward. People exposed to the bacteria may experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. In rare cases, more serious problems like joint pain, infections, or eye irritation can occur.
If a pet has consumed the recalled food and shows any of these symptoms, contact a vet for treatment. People who feel sick after coming in contact with the product should visit a doctor as well.
