While the debate rages on about whether or not a hotdog is a sandwich, one fact remains indisputable; the ballpark and picnic favorite is a summertime classic. Surf City Dog House,a brand new concept from Phillip and Stacey Ghigliotty, is bringing a fresh approach to the old standard to Long Beach Island later this spring, reports local media outlet Asbury Park Press.
The eatery will be setting up shop at 1521 Long Beach Boulevard in the space that formerly housed Little Sumo’s Sushi’s dining area. Stacey Ghigliotty tells What Now Philadelphia that the restaurant plans to hold its grand opening the weekend before Memorial Day.
Ghigliotty says that time and opportunity conspired to bring Surf City Dog House to fruition. She explains its origins, saying: “We were on vacation and we saw this unique kind of hot dog and we thought it would be a great fit for LBI. We were still thinking about it and we drove down the road and saw this unit for rent.”
Surf City Dog House will challenge many preconceived notions of the hotdog, without sacrificing any of the delicious flavor fans know and love. Instead of being split down the middle, the bun is placed on a hot spike that warms and toasts it. Next, guests select toppings which are placed inside the roll followed by the guest of honor-the frank itself. Customers will be able to choose between a beef and pork blend and a vegetarian dog.
This unique approach to the beloved treat takes inspiration from Hawaii. Surf City will have two established options-the Top Dog, covered in mustard and relish, and the High Tide, made with pineapple relish, garlic sauce and honey mustard. However, guests may also opt to curate their own hotdog experience, selecting from ingredients including mustard, chili, cheese, and ketchup.
Ghigliotty says that while the eatery will be a grab-and-go establishment, there are benches outside where customers are more than welcome to enjoy their hotdogs and the scenery.
The Ghigliottys are largely focused on ensuring a successful launch for the LBI Surf City Dog House, however, Stacey states that should this initial location prove successful, the duo would consider opening a second location further south. Additionally, prospective customers have expressed interest in catering services, so the Ghigliottys may explore a mobile option.
