Adonis, a Montreal-based grocer that offers a range of hot food options and operates kitchens at many of its locations, is set to open a new location at the Westwood Power Centre, located at Bradley Avenue and Wonderland Road South.
The company is set to open its 16th Canadian location in London, Ontario, marking its first in Southwestern Ontario, according to Retail Insider. Construction for the new 46,000-square-foot store is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, with an anticipated opening in late summer of the same year. A representative from the company tells What Now Toronto that this location is expected to open in August 2025.
“We are very excited to expand into southwestern Ontario,” Sherif K. El Gharbawy, Regional Director of the Adonis Groupe, tells Retail Insider. “We’ve been serving customers in the GTA and Ottawa, but London marks a new frontier for us. From what we are seeing so far, the demand is clearly there. When you enter our store, it’s like a discovery trip. You’re not just shopping; you’re learning, tasting, and connecting with traditions from across the Mediterranean. What we bake is what we sell, and it’s always fresh—baked just an hour ago.”
The London store will feature departments offering Lebanese, Middle Eastern, North African, and broader Mediterranean foods, including an on-site pita production line that can bake up to 15,000 pitas per day. The store will also emphasize local sourcing, featuring seasonal Ontario produce and 100% halal meats from Canadian suppliers. With over 150 employees expected, the store aims to provide a culturally immersive shopping experience, combining authentic products with knowledgeable staff to guide customers through the offerings.
Customers can expect a variety of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes, including shish taouk, kafta, shawarma, falafel, and BBQ chicken, typically served with rice, salad, and pita. Many locations feature grill stations and food courts; for instance, the Dollard-des-Ormeaux location boasts a 50-seat dining area, while the downtown Montreal store offers a selection of hot and cold sandwiches and gelato.
In the bakery section, you can find an assortment of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean pastries and breads such as baklava, knafeh, maamoul, as well as various types of croissants and pita bread. Sfiha meat pies and filled rolls, available with spinach, cheese, or meat, are also available. All these items are baked fresh in-store, and the product offerings remain consistent across various locations, including Laval, Brossard, Place Vertu, and others.
The retailer currently operates stores in Mississauga, Scarborough, Ottawa, and another location in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It also has a strong brand presence in Quebec, where it operates 11 locations. The expansion into Ontario began after the chain was acquired by Metro Inc., one of Canada’s largest grocery companies. London will not be the last stop for Adonis in Ontario; El Gharbawy tells Retail Insider that the company is looking to expand into several growing regions, guided by demographic trends and data from Statistics Canada.
“The areas showing the most promise for cultural grocery demand include Richmond Hill, Windsor, Oakville, Burlington, and Hamilton,” El Gharbawy tells Retail Insider. “We’re analyzing population growth, immigration patterns, and local demand for authentic, international food offerings.”
