A new Italian-Canadian restaurant, Sal’s, is set to take over the space currently occupied by Wolfie in Little Italy, located at 614 College Street.
This new restaurant is being launched by the team behind the popular Junction Triangle eatery Lucia, including Michael Sangregorio and Fabio Bondi. Named in honor of both owners’ fathers, Sal’s promises to bring a fresh concept to the area, blending Italian and Canadian influences in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, according to an announcement on social media. While the exact opening date has yet to be confirmed, Sangregorio tells What Now Toronto that the restaurant is expected to open its doors sometime in July 2025.
“Nestled between the Iconic Chin Radio Building and the Royal Theatre, Sal’s location couldn’t be more fitting,” according to Lucia’s social media. “The restaurant, named after both Michael and Fabio’s Dads, brings to life a celebration of Italian-Canadian cuisine. Both Sals’ immigrated to Canada with a suitcase and a dream. Like most Italians, they settled on College St. The new restaurant is a coming home of sorts. Sal’s Kitchen will showcase dishes that their families grew up eating and celebrating milestones with.”
This move comes after Wolfie, a contemporary take on the traditional pub, announced it would close after just a year of operation, with its final service scheduled for May 24th. Despite Wolfie’s short-lived run, the team behind Sal’s is excited to bring a new dining experience to the space. Wolfie recently took to social media to thank the community and officially announced the closure.
“After an unforgettable year, we’re announcing the closure of Wolfie,” the restaurant announced on social media. ”We’re deeply grateful for the memories, meals, and moments we’ve shared with you, our amazing guests, staff, and community. Though this chapter is closing, the memories and connections will stay with us always. Our last day of service will be May 24th. We’d love to see as many of you as possible before then for one final drink together. It’s been an honour to be part of College Street, even for a short while. Keep your eyes on 614 College — something new and exciting is on the way.”
