The Charcoal Group, led by CEO Jody Palubiski, is moving forward with expansion plans despite broader economic challenges.

The Southern Ontario-based restaurant group, which operates 18 locations including the long-standing Charcoal Steakhouse in Kitchener, has signed four new leases and is in discussions for three additional sites over the next two and a half years, according to Retail Insider. It’s unclear exactly where or when these new concepts will open. Palubiski reports that the company is exceeding last year’s performance and remains optimistic about continued growth, despite the industry facing uncertainty, rising living costs, and changing consumer habits.

Recent openings include new Beertown locations in London and Whitby. Palubiski credits the group’s success to strong operations, strategic location choices, and a continued focus on hospitality. He emphasizes the importance of effective staffing, noting the group is currently fully staffed across all levels. Attracting and retaining talent remains a priority, with efforts focused on creating a positive work environment and building strong teams to sustain momentum as the company expands.

The Charcoal Group operates several distinct restaurant concepts across Southern Ontario. Its flagship, the Charcoal Steakhouse, has been a Kitchener staple since 1955, offering classic steakhouse dining. Beertown Public House blends a modern pub atmosphere with a strong focus on craft beer and elevated casual food. Sociable Kitchen + Tavern offers a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with a menu centered on comfort food and shareable plates. Wildcraft Grill + Long Bar provides an upscale yet casual experience, featuring contemporary cuisine and a vibrant bar scene. Each concept is tailored to its market, contributing to the group’s steady growth and strong brand presence in the region. Additional concepts include Martini’s, Del’s Italian Kitchen, The Bauer, The Moose, and Solé Restaurant and Wine Bar.
