After nearly four years, Johnny’s Dock has returned to Thea Foss Waterway and Marina under new ownership.

Gurinderjit “Gary” Singh Purewal and his wife, Poojadeep Purewal, are bringing their own flair to the iconic waterfront spot at 1900 East D St.

“What we’ve done is, besides reviving the restaurant, we are maintaining the seafood Pacific side of the food and adding the flavor of Indian cooking and some Indian dishes have been added,” Purewal told What Now Seattle.

Purewal said two chefs now run the kitchen — one focused on Indian flavors with a seafood twist, and the other on Pacific Northwest-style fare.

Menu items include garlic naan, curry, lamb, and tiki masala, along with shrimp scampi, shrimp cocktail and a popular choice since reopening: fish and chips made in-house with halibut and cod.

A Tacoma native is behind the bar serving local favorite cocktails.

“It’s an iconic location and most of our seniors have their memories here. They come in to rejoice and rejuvenate their memories,” Purewal said. “That’s what I’m excited about and we have added the twist to the menu which will bring a lot of new youngsters in who haven’t been to the restaurant before.”

Johnny’s Dock features live music every weekend — a local band on Fridays and a house DJ on Saturdays.

Purewal said he welcomes customer feedback and has plans for the restaurant moving forward.
