Shake Shack Canada, the Canadian arm of the globally recognized New York-based burger brand, is preparing to open a new Toronto-area location at Square One Shopping Centre at 100 City Centre Drive, Unit #144-145.
Recent paperwork from Mississauga’s building permit detail reports indicates interior alteration within the shopping centre, signaling the popular American fast-casual brand’s continued expansion in Canada. An opening date for the Square One location has not yet been announced. Shake Shack Canada was officially launched through a partnership between two Toronto-based private investment firms, Osmington Inc. and Harlo Entertainment Inc.
While Square One’s official directory has yet to confirm the new tenant, the addition of Shake Shack would follow recent food court developments at the mall, including the arrival of Potato Corner & Grill Shack and the upcoming opening of Rock’N Deli. Shake Shack will join a handful of other international burger brands at the shopping center, including Bingz Crispy Burger, A&W, Burger King, and McDonald’s.
The upcoming Mississauga location will mark Shake Shack’s fourth in the Greater Toronto Area, following successful openings at 10 Dundas Street East, Union Station, where the brand introduced one of its rare full bar concepts, and Yorkdale Shopping Centre. The 4,300-square-foot Yorkdale location, which opened in February 2024, was designed to redefine shopping centre dining by offering an elevated fast-casual experience featuring an indoor patio and artwork by local artist Vivian Rosas.
“Shopping centres are evolving into vibrant lifestyle hubs where dining plays a central role,” Billy Richmond, Business Director at Shake Shack Canada, tells 6ix Retail earlier this year. “By introducing elevated, yet approachable dining spaces, we’re catering to guests who want more than just a quick bite.”
