Philly’s top beer family is getting ready for their next great adventure-the suburbs. Northwest Philadelphia’s own Wissahickon Brewing Co., a labor of love of the Gill family, is taking its signature brews to a new location in Maple Glen, and it should be ready to go before the end of 2025, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The brewery will be breathing life back into the building at 870 Welsh Road that housed Brick & Barrel until about a year ago. The ground floor storefront will afford Wissahickon Brewing Co. with 7,000 square feet of space to accommodate around 75 customers.

The Gill family will be giving the building a bit of a cosmetic glow-up to better match the brewery’s aesthetic. Co-owner Tim Gill Sr. explains to the Philadelphia Inquirer that the concept will be taking advantage of Brick & Barrel’s pizza ovens to make delicious wood-fired pies in an open concept kitchen. He states: “We want to actually open it up a bit to let the customers see the action. Just like we let them see us making beer [in East Falls], we let them see us making kombucha [in Olde Kensington], let’s put on a show for the pizza.”

The Gills are looking forward to introducing their signature brews, ciders, and kombucha to a whole new audience. Gill Sr. feels confident that the brewery’s sensibility and atmosphere will prove enticing to Maple Glen locals. He explains “We think that we’ve got the right mix of family-friendly and also cool and funky that we’re going to be able to pull a crowd.”
