Restaurateurs Nick and Kelly Ruhotina will bring a new dining concept to Charleston this fall.
The owners of Nick’s German Kitchen, famous for their schnitzel and spaetzle, will open Vinea Courtyard Kitchen at 115 River Landing Drive. The new restaurant will take over the former Sermet’s Courtyard location, which closes on August 20.
“For years, Sermet’s Courtyard has been a cherished part of Daniel Island—a place where neighbors gathered, celebrations unfolded, and memories were made over beautiful meals. As Sermet’s prepares to wrap up its unforgettable run in the coming weeks, we’re honored to share what’s next for this special courtyard,” the restaurant shared via Instagram.
Vinea, which means vineyard in Latin, will bring fresh energy to the iconic space with European flavors, warm hospitality and a connection to the courtyard.
“Vinea reflects both the natural beauty of our courtyard and the way great food and wine bring people together. As vines grow around our tables, so too do conversations, friendships, and community,” the post continued.
Customers can expect risotto, chicken, fresh-made pasta, and daily fish and meat specials. The couple’s focus on Mediterranean cuisine builds on their earlier venture, Mezzo European Cuisine, which they opened in Charleston in 2019. Mezzo featured Italian, German, Austrian and French dishes, but growing demand for German food led them to transform Mezzo into Nick’s, according to the Post and Courier.
Vinea Courtyard Kitchen plans to debut this September, though it has not yet announced an official opening date.
