A new concept is coming to Grand Lake, following the news of a local favorite that recently closed. Arizona entrepreneurs Darrel and Mary Ann Stice will be bringing The Churro Sundae Shoppe & Grill to town, taking over Not-Cho Mama’s Grill and Cantina’s property at 828 Grand Ave Unit 1.
The Stices told What Now Denver that they will briefly preview the shop this year until October, but will then close again for the colder months, reopening next year for its official first full season in May. Typical tourist season in the area is late spring through mid-fall. They are currently hiring for a few part-time positions.
“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to open our first restaurant! Grand Lake is such a gorgeous town with so much to offer a small business like ours. We’re very excited to open our doors to everyone here, and we’re looking forward to getting to know the locals as well as meeting tourists!”
This will be the first brick-and-mortar establishment for the couple, who own The Snowy Churro dessert truck in the Phoenix area, Shoutout Arizona writes. Prior to stepping into business ownership, Darrel taught middle and high school math for over two decades, and Mary Ann worked as an office manager and supervisor in the medical field.
The menu at The Churro Sundae Shoppe & Grill will feature Colorado-raised beef hamburgers and cheeseburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, seasoned curly fries, and tater tots. Desserts will include churro sundaes, plain and filled churros in five flavors, and ice cream sundaes.
It will replace Not-Cho Mama’s Grill and Cantina, which closed following the unexpected passing of owner Richard “Rick” Petrie. The location is in a plaza between the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre and Firefly Cantina, just a block from the lake’s shore.
