Avalanche Food Group (AFG) is preparing to introduce Houston diners to another round of its buzzy Bread Zeppelin concept. The company announced it will open a second area location at 9753 Katy Freeway in the Memorial City district, adding to the growing popularity of the brand’s unique menu.
Bread Zeppelin has built a loyal following with its “Zeppelins” — chopped salads tucked into hollowed-out artisan baguettes. The result is a crunchy yet soft hybrid that merges the freshness of a salad with the portability of a sandwich. Customers can also opt for bowls, with options ranging from five types of greens to nearly 40 toppings and 20 house-made dressings.
“We were overwhelmed by the response at our first Houston location,” said Ricky Rosa, COO of Avalanche Food Group. “From the moment we opened in Greenway in May 2024, we saw huge community support and even viral social media moments. Houstonians have really embraced the extraordinary flavor and freshness of the custom Zeppelins and salads, and we’re excited to bring that same energy to Memorial City.”
The original Houston store at 3235 Southwest Freeway gained national attention earlier this summer as videos of the Zeppelin creations spread across TikTok and Instagram. Founded in 2013 in Las Colinas, Texas, by Troy Charhon and Andrew Schoellkopf, the brand has become known for shaking up the fast-casual category with its made-to-order approach. Alongside its signature menu, guests can expect a self-serve lemonade and tea bar, warm bread pudding made from the baguette centers, and catering options that include boxed lunches and mobile salad bars.
Avalanche Food Group, founded by brothers John, Joe, and Ricky Rosa, operates the Houston Bread Zeppelin franchises. The family-owned company also oversees 11 Twin Peaks restaurants across Texas and Indiana and is recognized for its community efforts. Over the years, AFG has donated more than $600,000 to philanthropic causes, including annual Christmas tree giveaways and most recently a back-to-school drive that raised over $78,000 for local teachers and classrooms.
“Hospitality is about more than great food—it’s about being a part of the community and giving back,” Rosa said. “We’re excited to open this second Houston Bread Zeppelin location and proud to continue growing and serving Houston, both at the table and in the community.”
Grand opening plans for the Memorial City Bread Zeppelin will be announced soon, with the new location set to open in September 2025.
