Mamakas, the popular Greek restaurant on Ossington Avenue, known for its traditional dishes inspired by owner Thanos Tripi’s childhood memories, is opening a new location in Toronto’s Summerhill neighborhood, at 5 Scrivner Square.
The restaurant’s second location is expected to open in 2026 at The James, following more than 10 years on Ossington Avenue, according to Toronto Life. Discussions with Tricon, the building’s developer, began in 2022. Customers can anticipate Mamakas’ signature offerings, including house-made dips and house-made pita, grilled lamb chops, and fresh whole fish, along with new features such as a private dining room inspired by Trapezi on Ossington. The expansion reflects the team’s careful approach to finding the right space, energy, and community for growth.
Mamakas has evolved into a multi-concept brand, featuring ventures such as Agora, a grab-and-go spot, Koukla, a bar offering mezes, and Trapezi, a private dining space. The Summerhill location will preserve the spirit of the original restaurant while introducing its own personality, catering to both longtime fans and new diners.
The restaurant will continue to emphasize accessibility and authenticity in its cuisine. It will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, featuring a new prix fixe menu that complements reimagined Mamakas’ favorites.
Mamakas is also launching a premium brand of extra-virgin olive oil, available for pre-order starting November 20th on mamakas.ca, with pre-order fulfillment and in-store availability (at Mamakas Taverna, Koukla, and Agora) beginning in early December 2025. This initiative reinforces the restaurant’s commitment to high-quality, authentic ingredients and culinary traditions.
