Bojangles, the Southern fast food restaurant known for its fried chicken and biscuits, is opening a restaurant in Apopka.
The North Carolina-based chain filed an application with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for a restaurant to be located at 3050 SR 436. No opening date has been set.
Bojangles was founded in 1977 by restaurateurs Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas, who opened the flagship location in Charlotte, North Carolina. The partners had a goal to bring the flavors and spices of Cajun cooking to the fast casual market.
The restaurant, named after American tap dancer and entertainer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, flourished with people who came for its fried chicken that’s marinated for 12 hours before being hand-breaded and deep-fried, and biscuits made from scratch. Today, the menu has expanded to include dirty rice, breakfast biscuit sandwiches, Bo Bites (chicken nuggets), salads, grilled chicken sandwiches, and more. Bojangles also offers catering services for office meetings, events, and parties.
There are currently more than 800 Bojangles locations operating in 20 states, with the majority of locations throughout North Carolina and the Southeast. Bojangles is in expansion mode with plans to expand to more than 1,000 locations in the next few years, particularly in California, New York, and Arizona.
