Water World (8801 N Pecos St. in Federal Heights) is gearing up for one of its most ambitious updates in years, and part of the project will include new dining and bar choices. Comments from employees of the park confirm that it’s not just the property’s pools getting a refresh – there will be F&B upgrades too.

The facility’s Calypso Cove section closed in August after a more than 40-year run, and is set to be replaced with a new area coined Summit Canyon. Popular rides like Screamin’ Mimi, Tortuga Run, Pirates Plunge, and Wally World are being removed, and new attractions and dining/drinking options will take their place. The first rendering shows at least four pools, two large thrill slides, lounge areas, and shaded seating.

Denver Insider reported on the changes to the space. Community Relations Manager for the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District, Kellie Flowers Rowan, told What Now Denver Summit Canyon will include a food service location and a spot for drinks. Alcohol was not previously available in this area of the park.

A 70-acre venue managed by the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District, Water World is one of the country’s largest water parks. It was recently named by Newsweek as #2 in the nation for top facilities, KDVR writes. The demolished Calypso Cove zone was one of the oldest areas in the park, dating back to the 80s.

Rowan said the company hopes to debut Summit Canyon when the 2026 season begins on May 23. She noted that timelines could be impacted by weather, and guests will be updated as the season gets closer.
