Located in Solano County, The Point Restaurant has decided to bid the community adieu on Sunday, December 28. The waterfront restaurant has been around for 61 years, known for its seafood and steaks.

Longtime Solano County Waterfront Restaurant to Close This December

The Point Restaurant, located on the Sacramento Delta, has long been a popular stop for campers and boaters. However, the eatery announced that it will shut down this month.

In a social media post, the restaurant spoke about the closure ahead of the New Year. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce that The Point Restaurant will be closing on Sunday, December 28th,” the post read. The restaurant cited lease issues and broader economic challenges as key factors behind the decision.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement on our new lease, and with the challenges of the current economy, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors,” it said.

The restaurant expressed its gratitude to its loyal fans who have been around for decades. “We are deeply grateful for your support and loyalty over the past 50 years – serving this community has been a great privilege for everyone involved. Thank you for dining with us and being a part of our story,” the post added.

The eatery is encouraging guests to visit during its final weeks and make reservations in advance.

About the Restaurant’s Legacy

Brothers Jack and Richard Bauman built the Delta Marina Yacht Harbor in 1959 and opened the business in 1960. It expanded later, with 255 berths for boats as big as 45 feet, and offered an RV park and several other amenities.

They began developing The Point Restaurant in a sprawling 7,000-square-feet of space in February 1964. It opened in June that year. The restaurant expanded its amenities, eventually becoming one of the most popular dining destinations on the Sacramento Delta.

The Point briefly closed when Jack retired, but his son and daughter-in-law took over the business soon after repurchasing it. The restaurant reopened in April 1994 under new family ownership and continued operating for the next two decades.

In 2015, Antonio DeGonzalez took over the restaurant, continuing its legacy until its recent closure. The eatery was known to be the second-best waterfront restaurant in the Delta. After more than 60 years as a waterfront landmark, The Point Restaurant’s closure brings an era to a close on the Sacramento Delta.
