In light of the recent announcement that longstanding coffee shop JavaVino will be closing in Poncey-Highland after a 22-year run, a new cafe is taking over the space at 579 N Highland Ave NE. At Arbeta has plans to begin construction after the holidays, with hopes of opening by the end of 2026.

At Arbeta, which is Swedish for “working to achieve something,” will aim to provide a space that caters to remote workers, offering a happy medium between co-working spaces and coffee shops.

“At coffee shops, people usually don’t get privacy or spaces if you have an interview, or really good food,” operating partner Rebecca Floyd told What Now Atlanta. “I feel like filling in that gap is very much needed.”

The space will offer work-friendly seating, quiet meeting areas and reservable private meeting spaces.

The European-inspired café will feature a modern Scandinavian design and a small, simple menu that emphasizes quality over quantity. The menu is still a work in progress, but expect to see items like hot and cold sandwiches, overnight oats and pastries. The spot will offer breakfast, lunch and aperitivo-style wine, cocktails and small plates in the evening. The cafe will also continue to serve JavaVino’s local roasted coffee.

“I love any neighborhood with a regulars-type of atmosphere,” Floyd said. “Hopefully we can find a space for foodies and people working. That area is just wonderful for that, so when the opportunity came, it seemed like a perfect fit.”
