Illy Coffee Bringing New Cafe to River North Near Magnificent Mile

A premium cafe is coming to River North from the company known for their brews and coffee machines.

The international coffee company with flavors of Italy will soon land in the North Side neighborhood.

A liquor license application was recently submitted under the name Illy River North for 675 N Wells Street. This will be the second known shop from the coffee company, the first being at the NBC Tower downtown. An opening date has not been announced.

Illy Coffee has been around since 1933 when it was founded by Francesco Illy in Trieste, Italy. Since then, it has grown into a major coffee company, now being the third largest in the world. Now, there are around 17 locations across seven states and

The owner of the new location is Patrick Kingston from Tyson Foods. Kingston told What Now Chicago this will be an all day cafe and gelato shop. It follows the model of franchised Illy locations around the country.

“Here in this elegant and modern setting, it’s possible to find the entire range of Illy products as well as a complete menu of food & beverages dedicated to every time of the day,” says the description on their website.

Menus at typical cafes feature espressos, macchiatos, Americanos and other beverages like teas and sodas. On the food side, sandwiches are offered like egg white and avocado, sausage egg and cheese, and bagels with cream cheese.

Illy’s new cafe will be at the corner of N Wells Street and W Huron Street, across the street from Cocoro Restaurant. The status of construction is not known at this time.
