A movie enthusiast has big plans for the former MBG Products space.
It is being reported a new retail concept called Movies The Store is coming to downtown Evanston at 1043 Chicago Avenue. This will be a “boutique physical media store” for the Main Dempster-Mile business district. Owner Stirling McLaughlin told What Now Chicago he is hoping to open the store sometime next month as he recently received the keys.
McLaughlin has been a lover of films since he first saw Ghostbusters in the theaters as a child. He has been involved in movie projects including Cold War, an anti-rom-comedy which he executive produced. He wanted to create a space in the city that celebrates the art form.
“We’re building a place for movies. Not just FILMS. Imagine an intimate space that cherishes motion pictures as the important art form they are, while simultaneously remaining decidedly unpretentious,” says the description on their website.
Along with the many films, Movies the store will also sell books and gifts for the community. From a recent post, it is a place for both “hardcore cinephiles” and casual movie-goers. Apparel like t-shirts will also be available for choosing.
The storefront shares the building with other businesses such as Kim’s Cleaners and Papa Bop Korean restaurant. It sits near the south end of Evanston, not far from Main Street. This is about equal distance from the Main and Dempster CTA Purple Line stations.
More updates on the Movies The Store’s opening date can be found on their Instagram @moviesthestore.
