A legendary family-owned Mexican restaurant, La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria, confirmed its Pilsen storefront’s closure. After more than a six-decade run, the restaurant will shut down after its final service by the end of December. Following the closure, the restaurant plans to relocate to the Berwyn neighborhood.
La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria to Close Pilsen Location
Founded in the 1960s, La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria has been serving the Chicago community with authentic Mexican flavors, homemade tortillas, and warm hospitality. The restaurant team announced the heartbreaking news of its closure on social media.
The restaurant said its Pilsen location will close on December 26. La Casa del Pueblo, located at 1834 S Blue Island Avenue, Chicago, will continue to serve the community until Christmas Day on December 25.
The restaurant said in its announcement, “We will remain open here in Pilsen through Xmas Day. We will be here to fill all your Christmas Tamal orders.”
While the Pilsen location is saying goodbye, the restaurant has already planned to relocate to a new location at 6723 W Cermak Rd, Berwyn.
With an optimistic tone, the team noted that the new location will continue La Casa del Pueblo’s 64-year legacy. “This is not a goodbye; we will see you over there. God bless and thank you for the many years of love and continued support,” continued the statement.
Legacy of the Restaurant
Founded by Martha Saucedo and her mother, Maria Sanchez, La Casa del Pueblo began its journey inside the La Casa del Pueblo Supermarket. According to a Tristanlegal, due to fire damage to the grocery store, the owner offered the space to Martha and Maria to open their restaurant.
Over the years of its service, the restaurant has built a strong following among the local community.
The report stated that the restaurant is relocating and closing its Pilsen neighborhood location because of lease issues with the current landlord.
