The Texas-based coffee chain is landing in the western suburb later this year.
From The Daily Herald, Summer Moon Coffee is expanding to another area of Chicagoland in Wheaton. The shop is being opened by franchisees Emily and Jesse Moffitt at 811 Butterfield Road. Right now, the opening date is set for March.
Summer Moon Coffee has over 60 locations nationwide. It was started in Texas in the early 2000s and has since grown to a national brand. The company follows a franchise model and continues this with their Crystal Lake and Wheaton cafes, both owned by the Moffitts.
The Crystal Lake location at 625 Cog Circle opened in 2023, and has since been a success in the commercial area of the suburb. Their new shop is going in on the south side of Wheaton, at the same building as Oberweis Ice Cream. A Jimmy John’s is in the building next door.
The menus for Summer Moon vary slightly by location, but staples include espressos, lattes, cafe au lait and non-coffee options like hot chocolate and chai lattes. On their social media, the Wheaton location advertises there will be “oak roasted coffee and moon milk.” This follows the Texas business model of roasting coffee over an open flame.
The owners will be providing more information as it gets closer to the opening on their Instagram @summermoonwheaton. What Now Chicago has reached out to Jesse and Emily, and this article may be updated.
