Good Earth Natural Foods, a Marin-based natural and organic grocer, is set to open a new location in San Rafael at 1500 Northgate Drive.

The company’s third location will take over the former Rite Aid building in the Northgate Mall, according to a press release. The new store is expected to open in Spring 2027, joining its existing locations in Fairfax and Mill Valley. Customers can expect the same focus on high-quality organic products, an in-store cafe, scratch-made prepared foods, and a community-oriented shopping experience.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of a 3rd Good Earth location in Marin County,” Stephen Mitchell, co-owner and Managing Partner of Good Earth Natural Foods, said in a press release. “We were focused on finding a location that allowed us to expand access to uncompromisingly clean, healthy, organic food throughout Marin, and to better serve our North Marin customers. We are very excited about this next chapter in our evolution. It not only provides new opportunities for our staff to grow and develop, as it will create over 200 new jobs, it also allows us to deepen our commitment to the Marin community and to our mission of improving the health of people and planet.”

Founded in 1969 in Fairfax, Good Earth Natural Foods has spent more than five decades establishing itself as a staple for Marin County residents seeking organic groceries. The grocer emphasizes certified organic produce, locally sourced ingredients, and sustainable practices, and has built a reputation for attentive service and educational programming around health and wellness. This expansion reflects the brand’s measured growth strategy and dedication to maintaining its standards across all locations.

The Terra Linda store will occupy approximately 21,300 square feet, featuring indoor and outdoor dining spaces, a cafe serving organic juices, smoothies, and coffee drinks, a full-service meat and seafood department, and a prepared foods section made from scratch. The store will serve as an anchor for the Northgate redevelopment, reinforcing the mall’s role as a community shopping and dining destination.

Good Earth Natural Foods has long been committed to thoughtful growth, prioritizing quality over rapid expansion. The new San Rafael location is expected to create over 200 jobs and provide opportunities for current staff to take on leadership roles as the brand continues its regional footprint. Co-owner Al Baylacq adds that the company will seek input from the community throughout the buildout process to ensure the store meets local needs.

This expansion builds on Good Earth’s legacy of offering uncompromisingly clean and healthy foods while deepening ties to the Marin community. The Terra Linda location represents the next chapter in the brand’s mission to promote health and sustainability while making organic groceries more accessible to residents in North Marin.

“I’m pretty stoked we are going for it! We have incredibly dedicated staff in both stores now and they deserve this 3rd store opportunity,” Al Baylacq, Good Earth Natural Foods co-owner, said in a press release. “I’m super proud that we can continue to not only provide upward mobility for key staff, but we also get to bring more Organic to new friends and families! I’m beyond excited to see what we can create in this new space, and we welcome the community’s input every step of the way.”
