Milk Cloud Bakery to Open First Brick-and-Mortar in Berkeley
Milk Cloud Bakery has operated as a Japanese-inspired bakery through pop-ups across the East Bay. The bakery is known for its shokupan (Japanese milk bread), fruit sandos, and savory sandwiches.
The bakery will hold a soft opening on July 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The bakery will offer outdoor seating only.
Elizabeth Khuu founded Milk Cloud Bakery after transitioning from a career in graphic design to baking. She discovered a passion for Japanese milk bread and began selling her creations in several locations. After operating through pre-orders and pop-ups, Khuu is ready to open a permanent spot for her products.
What makes Milk Cloud Bakery stand out is its authentic Japanese-style milk bread with a pillowy texture. Khuu’s use of high-quality ingredients and seasonal items keeps customers coming back. Additionally, her beautifully presented pastries and sandwiches are among the store’s signature items.

What’s on the Menu
The menu at Milk Cloud Bakery focuses on Japanese bakery classics with modern flavors. The popular Shokupan is ultra-soft, fluffy loaves of milk bread made with organic A2 milk and honey. The fruit sandos are thick slices of milk bread filled with seasonal fruit and lightly sweetened cream. Seasonal offerings include strawberry and black sesame varieties.
The sandos are also available in a savory variety. Customers can choose from rotating fillings such as soy-marinated “ramen egg” sandwiches and others. The Basque cheesecakes are available in flavors like creme brulee and seasonal fruit variations.
Milk Cloud Bakery’s first permanent location marks a new chapter for the growing business.
