What Now reported in October on plans for Alder & Oak, a new restaurant offering “rustic, Aegean inspired wood-fired dishes… elevating humble ingredients, and bringing seasonality to every dishes,” to open at The Hub, a mixed-use project in Jacksonville’s Brooklyn neighborhood.
Well, it’s open at the Hub, and the reviews are already coming in on Yelp!
“Alder & Oak is a great addition to the downtown Jax/Brooklyn restaurant scene,” says one, by David A. “While it’s located downtown, it seems to pull off the feeling of a Mediterranean oasis. The use of wood, light blues, tans and rope (yes, I said rope) is brilliant. Whether you sit inside or outside, it feels as if you just walked off of the beach.”
“Such a fun new spot in Jax!” says another, by Erica Z. “Great place to go when the weather is good, with it being such an open concept design. For dinner we tried the Muhammara appetizer, prosciutto di Parma pizza, & chicken souvlaki. The pizza was some of the best around. All three of these had great flavors and definitely would go back to order again!”
As Alder & Oak gets up and running in Jacksonville, however, it’s not stopping to catch its breath. Coverage published today by Hoodline says Restaurant & Hospitality Investment Group, Alder & Oak’s owner and operator, is already at work on a second location, this time in Jacksonville Beach, where it will replace Jekyll Brewing.
“The Jacksonville Beach space opened up after Jekyll Brewing abruptly shut down all five of its locations in May 2025, a sudden closure that drew national coverage of the chain’s quick exit,” the Hoodline coverage says. “RHIG has yet to announce an official opening date for the Jacksonville Beach Alder & Oak… For now, the move signals that RHIG is doubling down on clustered concepts along the coast, a strategy that is poised to reshape several high-visibility beachside storefronts once Alder & Oak officially lights the wood fire.”
