Long-Standing Albany Nursing Home to Close Amid Cost Pressures, 130+ Jobs Affected

St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is slated to close on June 5, 2026. The closure will result in layoffs affecting more than 130 employees. None of the affected employees are represented by a union.

St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s Closure to Affect 130+ Employees

St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is closing soon and has initiated layoffs. The nursing facility has filed a WARN notice announcing the layoffs that will affect 133 employees. Since the employees are not part of a union and have no bumping rights.

According to the WARN notice, the layoffs will take place on June 5, 2026, when the facility will close. The notice provides advance warning ahead of the closure date.

$60 Million Upgrade Cost Drives Closure Decision

St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center announced that it will close within three months. The announcement states that it is unable to shoulder the $60 million upgrading cost that is required by the facility. As a result, the facility will close, and approximately 90 residents will be relocated.

The center is part of a larger nonprofit healthcare network. It operates other nursing homes and healthcare services in the region. The decision was made to save costs while ensuring the safety of the residents staying in the aging building.
