An upscale Japanese dining destination is growing its footprint in the Sacramento suburbs.
Roku Japanese Cuisine will open its second location this summer in Folsom, taking over the current University of Beer space at 1009 East Bidwell St in the Willow Creek Town Center, confirmed owner Teng Jiang. The beer hall’s final day of service will be Saturday, April 11, 2026, clearing the way for renovations to begin shortly after.
The new Folsom Roku will be a significant upgrade in size, spanning roughly 4,000 square feet—more than double the original Roseville space. The dining room alone will be about 1.5 times larger, designed to accommodate higher volume while maintaining an intimate, elevated atmosphere.

Despite the expansion, the heart of the concept will remain unchanged, said Jiang. The Folsom menu will mirror the lineup at the original Roku, which debuted in 2023, featuring a wide range of Japanese staples such as sushi, hand rolls, nigiri, ramen, soups, salads, and teriyaki entrées. Fan favorites include the Rainbow Roll, Lion King Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, Pepperfin Tuna, and Spicy Miso Ramen.
“At Roku, we honor Japan’s culinary traditions through meticulously crafted dishes—from pristine sashimi and artful sushi rolls to sizzling robata grills and comforting ramen bowls,” reads the eatery’s website. “Our name ‘Roku’ (meaning “six” in Japanese) embodies harmony and balance, reflecting our commitment to fresh ingredients, skilled preparation, and serene dining.”
Jiang told What Now Sacramento that the space will be remodeled ahead of opening, with a target debut set for late June or early July 2026. For updates and early previews, be sure to follow @rokujapanesecuisine on Instagram.
