Formerly home to the Bad Habit Room, the space at 5433 N Michigan Avenue in Portland will soon be taken over by Far Cry, a new hi-fi listening bar.
“Far Cry will be a bar focused on the appreciation of recorded music,” said an Instagram post published by Far Cry on April 22. “Full sides, all vinyl. Jazz, experimental, blues, country, soul, reggae, ambient, post punk. Anything we love, really. Stay tuned for updates/progress reports.”
What Now spoke with owner Colin Anderson Friday about plans for the new vinyl bar.
“We’re going to be playing really good, mainly vintage hi-fi equipment,” Anderson said. “Some of it is like 60 years old. We’re really excited to create a place that’s mellow, with cafe vibes, where you can really appreciate music.”
The menu will feature rice bowls and handhelds drawing on various international cuisines: a Japanese-convenience-store-style egg salad sandwich, paninis with surprising flavor combinations, and more. On the drinks side, the menu will be cocktail-focused, with about 12 signature cocktails, along with 3-4 taps for draft beer, mocktails, canned beer, and a few wines.
“My vision for Far Cry is for it to be a space for people to come, unwind, not worry about being seen, soak up the music, and relax. A meditative, introspective kind of space to take a break from the crazy world we live in.”
Expect to hear full sides of vinyl, with genres like jazz, chill electronic music, soul, and blues spinning.
An opening date hasn’t been set yet, but Far Cry is working to launch by mid-July.
