Global shipping and logistics company A.P. Moller – Maersk, has announced plans to close its Lakewood facility. The company will also cut jobs at its Sumner location. Maersk announced the decisions through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings.
Maersk is Closing Its Lakewood Facility
Maersk filed a WARN notice on May 1, 2026, with the Washington State Employment Security Department. The company plans to close its facility Lakewood facility at 7530 150th St SW.
According to the filing, the entire facility is expected to close permanently, affecting 44 employees at the site. The closure and layoffs are scheduled for June 30, 2026. The company stated that some of the employees will be offered transfers to a facility in Sumner, Washington.
The company has notified the employees about the decision and listed the affected job positions. The Lakewood closure comes alongside planned layoffs at the company’s Sumner facility.
Layoffs Planned at Sumner Facility
Maersk has filed a WARN notice for its Sumner facilities. The May 1 filing shows five employees will be laid off at 2932 142nd Ave E in Sumner, Washington.
The layoffs are expected to be permanent, beginning June 30 and continuing through July 14, 2026. The facility itself is not closing and is expected to continue operations. In the filing, the company listed affected job positions and additional details of employees.
Affected roles include accounts manager, yard driver, forklift operators, and a divisional head of operations.
