Rockville foodies may find themselves sad to say “goodbye” to summer, but they can numb the pain by saying “hello” to an acclaimed Chinese concept. Xi’an Famous Foods is bringing its celebrated fare to Montgomery County, and it will be ready to serve guests later this fall.
The 12031 Rockville Pike storefront is on deck to be the first company-owned location in Maryland and second in the DMV at large. The New York original will have 1,718 square feet in which to greet and serve customers.
The location is currently under construction, a promising sign for Maryland diners hungry for a new and exciting local Asian dining option. A Reddit user recently confirmed that the store’s manager stated that the location is aiming to be customer-ready by late September.
CEO Jason Wang has expressed enthusiasm about moving into the area, saying: “In 2026, as a 20 year old, still family owned business, supported by sales with no investors or franchisees, we are excited to open our first company owned Maryland location in Rockville.”
The concept earned praise from Anthony Bourdain, arguably the patron saint of modern dining. It is unsurprising that Xi’an Famous Foods has become such a success; as the website states: “That company is this: Food first. REALLY good food, first. We still make our liang pi the old way, still hand-pull our noodles to order for that perfect bouncy bite.”
