An award-winning restaurant and historic Cape May hotel is changing ownership after 16 years.
Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant, a 1907 Georgian Revival mansion at 1301 Beach Ave. overlooking the ocean, will now be led by Carl and Megan Messick.
The former owners announced on social media they are stepping away with “both joy and sadness,” passing the torch of one of Cape May’s “most cherished” destinations.
“It has been our privilege to restore and enhance this wonderful property. While we are proud of all that we have accomplished, the greatest reward has been providing our loyal guests with the exceptional hospitality and dining experience that has defined PSI throughout the years,” the post read.
The transition marks a full-circle moment for new owner Carl, who spent 10 years as executive chef at PSI before opening his own Cape May restaurant, Grana BYOB.
“We are thrilled to welcome him back as he will now oversee both Cape May restaurants,” the post continued.
The plan is to carry on the tradition of “warm hospitality and memorable dining.”
While changes may be ahead, the current upscale dining experience centers on a first-and second-course menu with optional side dishes. Standout entrées include Cape May scallops, miso-glazed sea bass, grilled filet mignon and Spanish Iberico pork tenderloin.
PSI will continue accepting reservations and booking special events, including weddings, as normal while actively collaborating with the Messicks during the transition. All existing reservations, events and gift cards will be honored by both ownership teams.
