Pence Farm Sourdough, the family-owned bakery that has become one of the most beloved stops on downtown Sonora’s Washington Street, is getting ready for its next chapter. Owners Sunny and James Pence have filed a liquor license application with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for a new address at 123 S. Washington Street in Sonora, just down the block from their current location at 147 S. Washington. A temporary permit has already been issued, allowing the family to begin operating at the new space while the permanent license is finalized.
“We’re moving, and we’re making it bigger and better,” Sunny Pence confirmed to What Now Sacramento.
The Pences have also filed for a Caterer Permit and an Event Permit, suggesting the new space will go well beyond a bakery counter. Think sourdough toast with a glass of wine, private catered events, and a venue that can host the kind of community gatherings that fit naturally with the Pence Farm brand.
That brand has been quietly building a big following in Tuolumne County for years. They have a farm to table philosophy that runs deep. The Pences grow as many of the ingredients used in their bread as possible on their own farm, turning out fresh rustic sourdough loaves, fan favorite focaccia, avocado toast, build-your-own toast plates, and house made sandwiches that have made the bakery a “must stop” for both locals and Bay Area visitors on their way to Yosemite.
