KoJa Kitchen is closing its doors at 732 K Street in downtown Sacramento, but the space isn’t going anywhere, and neither are the people behind it. Franchise owner Thomas Quach and his team are staying at The Hardin, with both the operators and landlord Bay Miry of 700 Block Commercial LP confirming that changes are coming to the address and something new is already in the works.
KoJa Kitchen’s social media announcement was teasing: “Though we are saying goodbye to this chapter, the space won’t stay empty for long. A new chapter is coming to 732 K St. soon, and we can’t wait to share more details with you.”
The Sacramento location was always one of a kind. When it opened in 2019, Quach built out a two-story, 4,000-square-foot experience unlike anything else in the chain’s nearly 20th location. A fast casual upstairs with the brand’s signature Korean-Japanese rice burgers, short rib bowls, and umami fries, paired with a futuristic underground bar decked out in LED panels, touch-screen table surfaces, and moody lighting that made the space feel more like a nightclub than a lunch counter. It was a big swing, and for years it worked.
“Koja plans to evolve their concept and refresh the space after all these years,” Miry told the Sacramento Business Journal.
The remodel signals that Quach is ready to swing again. What exactly takes shape at 732 K Street remains to be revealed, but the combination of a active operator, a committed landlord, and a prime downtown address suggests whatever comes next will be worth paying attention to.
