El Punto, a new Mexican restaurant concept from City Tacos founder Gerald Torres Macy, is getting ready to open in San Diego at 2885 Perry Road, Suite 102.
The new concept will open in the former home of El Jardin Cantina in Liberty Station. While an opening date has not yet been announced, Torres Macy tells What Now that he hopes to open this concept by October 2026. Customers can expect a family- and pet-friendly Mexican restaurant with an affordable and vibrant atmosphere centered around the slogan, “Eat, Drink & Gather.”
Torres Macy is best known as the founder of City Tacos, a Mexican restaurant brand that has expanded throughout San Diego County. The company currently operates locations in North Park, Pacific Beach, Encinitas, La Mesa, Sorrento Valley, and the Ballpark. Over the years, the brand has built a presence across the region with a variety of tacos, burritos, bowls, and other Mexican favorites.
In addition to City Tacos, Torres Macy has continued developing new restaurant concepts throughout San Diego. Earlier this year, What Now reported on plans for Fonda del Barrio in Barrio Logan, a restaurant inspired by Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos that focuses on traditional regional Mexican cuisine. El Punto represents another addition to the owner’s growing restaurant portfolio.
Although the menu has not yet been released, the concept is expected to focus on approachable Mexican food in a casual setting designed for families, friends, and pet owners to gather. More information about the restaurant, including its full menu and opening timeline, is expected to be announced as development moves forward.
“It is going to be a Mexican restaurant that is family and pet-friendly, affordable, and vibrant called El Punto, and our slogan will be Eat, Drink & Gather,” Torres Macy tells What Now.
