Cay Bar & Grill, a new Vietnamese restaurant and bar operated by Khoa Tran, is set to open later this summer at 309 S Montgomery Street in Portland, taking over the former McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside space in the RiverPlace neighborhood along the Willamette River waterfront. An August or September opening is being targeted.
Cay Bar & Grill has been building anticipation on social media, with the brand teasing the Portland opening with a post that read “Something exciting is coming to Portland.” The concept combines Vietnamese food with a full bar in a space that, if the kitchen and drink program live up to the setting, could quickly become one of the most talked-about openings of the fall.
The address is one of the most recognizable in downtown Portland. The old Harborside location of McCormick & Schmick’s sat at the edge of the Willamette for decades, offering sweeping river views from what is arguably one of the most scenic dining perches in the city. Its closure left a gap that a Vietnamese concept with a full bar program is now stepping in to fill.
The RiverPlace neighborhood sits at the southern edge of downtown Portland, directly on the Willamette Riverfront Trail, which draws both locals and tourists looking for a waterfront experience close to the city’s urban core. According to Bridgetown Bites, no further details on the menu or ownership have been publicly announced.
