A locally owned and operated thrift store is closing its Fort Collins location. The Eco-Thrift store shared the closure announcement on social media and confirmed its permanent shutdown by the end of September 2026. The retail store has decided not to renew its lease, as the property is planned for Housing Catalyst development.
Fort Collins’ Eco-Thrift to Permanently Close
Located in Fort Collins, the Eco-Thrift store focuses on repurposing donated items back into the community and instilling a more sustainable lifestyle in the community.
The store sells furniture, kitchenware, clothing, toys, art supplies, antiques, and vintage items. Additionally, the store features a tool store, Eco Tool Library. It offers a huge selection of gardening, kitchen, electronics, and household tools and power tools on rent at an affordable price.
In a social media post, the store team shared a long emotional message and announced its permanent closure. After a decade-long run, the Eco-Thrift store is planning to close its doors by the end of September 2026.
The store owner shared, “It has been an honor and a lot of heartfelt work to serve this community in this capacity, and while I’m ready to not shoulder the responsibility any longer, there is so, so much I will miss!”
The store was initially owned by Tony Cooper; later in 2017, Stacy Koeckeritz took over the reins. She shared her journey in the post, “I was hired to help the founder and previous owner, Tony Cooper, with an exit strategy. I pretty quickly realized the business was something I could be passionate about and fit my skills and need to be doing work that felt meaningful.”
Eco-Thrift to Close as Lease Ends Ahead of Housing Catalyst Redevelopment
The owner said the city plans to transfer the property to Housing Catalyst for redevelopment. As a result, the Eco-Thrift store will not be renewing the lease after September. The owner said the business explored several relocation options, but moving costs and higher rent made a new location financially unfeasible.
“Many of you also likely know that I have wanted to pass the reins to someone else for a while now, but the combination of low profit margins and no long-term lease has been a significant barrier,” mentioned the owner.
The owner of Eco-Thrift shared the closure news and said only a “miraculous intervention” can save it. In the post, the owner thanked the community for its support and assured that the Eco Tool Library will continue its operation. The closure will end Eco-Thrift’s presence in Fort Collins after roughly a decade in business.
