The home furnishings retailer Crate & Barrel is preparing to make its San Antonio debut. The retail store will open at The Shops at La Cantera. The 20,000-square-foot retail space is part of a larger effort aimed at transforming the open-air shopping center.
Crate & Barrel Brings First San Antonio Store to La Cantera
The new Crate & Barrel showroom will be located at The Shops at La Cantera. The new location will give San Antonio shoppers access to the retailer’s furniture, décor, and home goods collections.
According to a report by The Culture Map, the store is set to open on August 20, 2026. The addition is the brand’s first in the Alamo City following decades of expansion in North America.
According to paperwork submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in 2025, the project was privately funded. The estimated cost at the time of filing was around $5 million.
The work covers a tenant fit out for roughly 20,005 square feet. It also includes some exterior facade improvements.
The company has also started hiring at the new site. This signals it is ready to welcome guests. Last month, Christie Chapman shared on LinkedIn that she will be the store leader for the new Crate & Barrel location.
She wrote, “I’m beyond excited to share that I will be the Store Leader for the new Crate & Barrel location opening in August 2026 at The Shops at La Cantera!”
La Cantera’s Broader Makeover
Crate & Barrel’s arrival comes as The Shops at La Cantera continues a major refresh. The shopping destination is bringing new retail concepts, restaurants, and luxury brands for shoppers, expanding its list of tenants.
According to My San Antonio, La Cantera is transitioning its east-side tenant mix toward home furnishings and lifestyle brands. Forever 21 closed in May 2025. Urban Outfitters ended its 16-year La Cantera run in January 2026.
Arhaus is taking over the former Urban Outfitters space; Herman Miller will split the adjacent Soft Surroundings footprint with Arhaus. Other 2026 additions include Rothy’s, Sixty Vines restaurant, SKIMS, Brilliant Earth, and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.
Founded in 1962 by Gordon and Carole Segal, Crate & Barrel is an international home furnishings retailer with more than 100 stores.
The company provides home products, art, design and decor, textiles, kitchen, table, and seasonal collections by various artists and designers. In addition to its main brand, the company has a subsidiary called Crate & Kids and CB2.
