According to public filings, Recess Fitness Club plans to open a second Dallas location at 3102 Oak Lawn Avenue, with construction completion targeted for Junuary 2027. What Now Dallas spoke to co-founder Taylor Metzger who confirmed that the Uptown gym is on track to open in mid-January 2027.
Recess Fitness Club first opened in 2020 at 5706 E. Mockingbird Lane, founded by Metzger and Evan Duncan during the pandemic. The 21,000-square-foot gym quickly built a following for blending serious training with playground-style features: swings, rope climbs, a Nintendo station, and a gleaming two-story slide connecting its floors. Recess also offers unlimited group fitness classes, top-tier personal training, and state-of-the-art equipment and recovery tools.
Since then the gym has grown and expanded its offer pointing to a more integral approach on health and strenght training, leaning into wellness in recent months, adding cold plunges, metabolic testing, and physician-led services, including GLP-1 and testosterone treatment, comprehensive lab work, and 24/7 access to a board-certified doctor. The brand also runs Recess Lunchbox, a meal-prep delivery service with rotating menu options for members.
About the new opening, Metzger emphasized the gratitude he feels toward the community for embracing Recess: “We are very grateful for the overwhelming response we’ve received from our Mockingbird location and are excited to be bringing another Recess to Uptown,” Metzger told What Now Dallas, noting that members will have access to both locations once the new club opens.
