This September, Richard Deshantz Restaurant Group, the culinary powerhouse behind restaurants like Butcher and the Rye, Fish Nor Fowl, and Coop De Ville will make its debut in Savannah on the city’s Eastern Wharf.
The original plan for the new restaurant, COO Tolga Sevdik told What Now on Wednesday, was to open the first out-of-state outpost of Coop De Ville, the company’s Southern-style chicken concept.
“One of our partners had moved to Savannah, and we had always wanted to do a restaurant there,” Sevdik said. “We decided to do it.”
These plans originally took shape just as COVID-19 was about to destabilize the entire hospitality industry. As Richard Deshantz Restaurant Group closed down restaurants, it was placed on the back burner for a time. Once the group picked the project up again and began devoting time to creating the space, the concept began to transform itself.
“It’s this beautiful space, designed by Rick. It sits close to 230 between patio seating, two floors, a bar, and a mezzanine. The space ultimately became so beautiful that we decided to switch from Southern fried chicken to fine casual dining.”
And so The Aberdeen by Coop De Ville was born. The menu is still under development, but you can expect to find a pizza-heavy selection influence by Italian cuisine of the Amalfi Coast. You’ll still find the Southern influence, but you’ll find a lot more too.
Sevdik says there are also plans for a lounge in the area.
